NMIX Classes Available – new skills courses.

There are spots available for students in three New Media Institute courses Fall semester.

NMIX4490 Digital Media Skills (1 hour) – MW, 10:10A – 11:00A
In this class, students will learn a host of digital media skills: web-building, portfolio creation, digital imaging, digital audio, powerpoint, and even a little podcasting. Now this class is not a substitute for the in-depth New Media Production (NMIX4110). This class will provide rudimentary basics that every student should have. Let’s put it this way – if this were a language class, you could find a bathroom, take a bus, and locate your luggage. New Media Production NMIX4110 makes you a native speaker. In Digital Media Skills, the instructor will present a topic on Monday and the students will work with the instructor on tasks Wednesday. We need some bright students to see how much we can accomplish in a 1-hour course!

NMIX4310 – Rich Media Production (3 hours) – TR – 10:10A – 11:00A
Podcasting, online video, digital audio. This class teaches how to create new forms of audio and video to be distributed via the net. This class counts as an elective for the New Media Certificate (http://www.nmi.uga.edu/programs/certificate/) but NMIX4110 is a pre-requisite.

NMIX4200 – Virtual Worlds (3 hours) – MWF – 3:35P – 4:25P
I am going to be teaching a course exploring virtual worlds like Second Life (http://www.secondlife.com). Now this is going to be a wild course – it is another NMI example where the teacher is more facilitator than instructor. But if you are interested and know how to do some virtual world things, we have about five seats available.

If you are interested in any of these courses, please contact me (Scott Shamp, sshamp@uga.edu).
