This DBB (Tu, 4/15, 12:30P) Virtual Worlds – Kaneva’s Chris Klaus

Kaneva is Georgia’s home-grown virtual world. Chris Klaus started Internet Security Solutions then sold it to IBM. He took the money and started building his own world – a virtual one called Kaneva (http://www.kaneva.com/). Kaneva is different from other virtual worlds in that it attempts to incorporate users’ media – like songs, videos, etc. At our next Digital Brown Bag (Tu, 4/14, 12:30P – 1:30P, NMI, 412 Journalism), Chris will tell us what he is trying to accomplish. Join us!

Student-Run Music Labels Show – Th, 4/17 – 5P – 7p Melting Point

Students in the Music Business Certificate Program in the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia have to adopt a band to work with. Each year the students host a performance highlighting their bands. On Thursday, 4/17, at the Melting Point in Athens, 8 bands will be performing (Blue Flashing Light, Ponderosa, Gift Horse, Olympus Mans, Josh Fletcher & 6 Shot Romance, Beyond Tomorrow, The Cubs, and Rockinwood). And it is free! And as an added bonus, Dallas Austin (yes, the Dallas Austin) will be participating in a seminar after the bands are done. Figure out the next happening band coming out of Athens.

Uncork a Cure – 4/24, 6-9P, Puritan Mills

For 20 years, the AIDS Research Consortium of Atlanta (ARCA = http://www.aidsresearchatlanta.org/) has been working to improve the lives of those living with AIDS and prevent new infection. Uncork a Cure (http://www.uncorkacure.org/) is an annual benefit for ARCA. Great wine, great food. And at this year’s event, we will be unveiling the videos resulting from the AIDS Personal Public Service Announcement Project (http://www.nmi.uga.edu/aids_ppsa/) – cool videos shot on cell phones to be distributed to cell phones encouraging HIV testing. Come eat, drink, and view for a good cause. More info at http://www.uncorkacure.org/. I will see you there.
